Hot Steppa Music

Kingston ⇄ Los Angeles

The vision for Hot Steppa began in St. Thomas, Jamaica, in 2014, when Phil Hot Steppa and Marcus Chong envisioned a project combining a sound system, record label, apparel line, and event production. Their goal was to create a platform that supports selected artists by managing their marketing and producing music and videos. Additionally, they aimed to provide the necessary infrastructure for events, and merch and apparel sales to fund creative endeavors.

In 2021, Phil and DJ Tetris officially launched the Hot Steppa Sound System, a party sound rooted in Reggae and Dancehall, enriched with Afrobeats, Hip Hop, and Pop. Hot Steppa LLC was established in LA, featuring an iconic 1966 Step Van as a mobile sound system, solidifying their reputation as a premier reggae sound in the city.

Hot Steppa Records released two singles featuring Tuff Like Iron, “Roll Out” and “Sometimeish”, in 2023. Her “Unbreakable” album, executive produced by Phil Hot Steppa, was released in June 2024.

In 2023, Yungg Trip joined as a DJ and in-house producer, enhancing the team's capabilities with his extensive artist and road management experience.

In 2024 Phil Hot Steppa moved to Jamaica and officially established Hot Steppa Productions Limited. DJ Stich and Kevin Genius began to work on the sound in Ocho Rios and St Thomas respectively. Soon, Empress “Eneji” Emily Newland joined the team doing event production and label A&R, bringing Ronnie Quest and the CHNL301 collective, as well as introducing DJ Amber as our latest DJ and event host.

Performing, providing event production and sound, we have made our mark as a top quality sound in Jamaica — we are now fully active in Kingston, Morant Bay, Ocho Rios, and our original Los Angeles home base.
